S/MIME Root CA Certificate Installation Guide
Follow these instructions to install the S/MIME Root CA certificate in your email client to enable secure email communications.
Mozilla Thunderbird
- Open Thunderbird.
- Access Options:
- Windows: Go to Tools > Options.
- Mac: Select Preferences from the Thunderbird menu.
- Select the Privacy & Security panel from the sidebar.
- Scroll down to the Certificates section.
- Click on View Certificates.
- Switch to the Authorities tab in the Certificate Manager.
- Click on Import.
- Locate and select the
root_CA.crt
file. - Check the box for “Trust this CA to identify email users”.
- Confirm by clicking OK to close the dialogs.
Microsoft Outlook (Windows)
- Double-click the
root_CA.crt
file to open the Certificate Import Wizard. - Select “Local Machine” when prompted and click Next.
- If asked for permissions, allow the process by entering admin credentials.
- Choose “Place all certificates in the following store”.
- Click on Browse and select Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
- Complete the wizard by clicking Next and then Finish.
Apple Mail (macOS)
- Double-click the
root_CA.crt
file to open with the Keychain Access. - Select the System keychain when prompted.
- Enter your administrator password.
- Find the imported certificate in the list.
- Double-click the certificate to open its info.
- Expand the Trust section.
- Set “When using this certificate” to Always Trust.
Microsoft Outlook (Mac)
- Open Keychain Access from Applications > Utilities.
- Drag and drop the
root_CA.crt
file into the login keychain. - Locate the newly added certificate.
- Double-click the certificate to open details.
- Expand the Trust section.
- Set “When using this certificate” to Always Trust.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure you have administrative privileges on your system for the installation.
- Check the integrity of the certificate file. Re-download if necessary.
- Restart your email client after the certificate installation.
- Contact your IT support team if issues persist.
